Only a 20 minute drive from MELKBOOMSDRIFT GUEST HOUSE, Strandfontein is situated on the mouth of the Olifant's River. Strandfontein ("beach fountain") evolved from being an insignificant rural beach resort to a bustling tourist mecca during the wild flower season (August/September) and during the South African summer season (November to February) and Easter holidays (March/April).

Strandfontein has become one of the main holiday resorts in South Africa for the observation of Southern Right whales which come close into the protective bay during their calving season.
